Small apartment, big impact

Homestory with Nina

We visited Nina, our interior stylist at benuta. She lives in a 30 m² apartment in an old building in Cologne and tells us how to turn a small apartment into a cosy and, above all, stylish home.

One room, many options

How Nina enlarges her bedroom

The bedroom is the heart of Nina's flat. She wanted to create a feeling of spaciousness here for more peace and relaxation. That's why she opted for our Jasper rug in Cream. The geometric design suits her style perfectly - the light colour reflects the light and opens up the room.

A large mirror, a cream-coloured curtain in front of the wardrobe and light-coloured furniture and accessories provide additional depth. Elements in her favourite colour blue give Nina's bedroom that certain something.

Inspiration for a mini-office

Nina's bedroom even has a small work corner. With our cosy Dave fur and the comfy Jona blanket on the chair, she has created a connection to the bedroom. Nevertheless, it's clear at a glance that this is a separate area.

As a stylist, she knows that a minimalist office promotes concentration. That's why she deliberately opted for delicate furniture and few decorations here. She also sits with her back to the sleeping area. After all, who could work with a cosy bed in front of you all the time?

Furnishing a small apartment

Nina's tips

To visually enlarge your small flat, you can consider the following when furnishing. Go for light basic tones with individual, deliberate colour accents. White, cream, beige, light grey and taupe as well as light wood are ideal for this. Also make sure you choose the right rug size and follow the motto: small room, small rug. Nina's top tip: large mirrors. They reflect light, create depth and a calming symmetry.
